Summary

this is first idea of having gametimer before game starts to lastly for all check options of game that all is correct having time to interrupt though causing no rehost which cost so much time to setup. some game timer before start wont hurt. can be configured also in general options later or in game options

also nice to getting prepared to fight (timer)

Wouldn't you check all settings before you click "I'm ready"? If we can't take the time to look over all the settings before we press "I'm ready", I doubt that you're going to catch much more in 10 seconds.
In any case, if the process of readying-up involves too many steps, I think the overall better way would be to change the "Game settings have been changed." message to a more descriptive message mentioning exactly what has been changed.

Also thought about this feature. Would have to have some kind of spamfilter as dropdown options can be scrolled. For example browsing twice or thrice through all 65 random map scripts would be quite spammy, so it should be displayed once the settings settle after N seconds, if that works at all.
Wouldn't mind a countdown of three seconds in multiplayer, but more seems to be too much for my taste. Agree that players very likely won't catch it if they didn't catch it before.

I Agreement with all ur comments. Maybe we should show all settings in a very small font as a summary at a bottomline too?

Maybe with a - seperated and Tooltip at which Position which Information stands.

Maybe later with icons

brainstorming idea: the log of changed gamesettings could also be shown in a new tab, so that we can switch between chat and settings log. not sure if it's a good idea.

We already show most relevant settings with a brief explanation on what they do in the gamedescriptions part below the map seletion, no?

Not bad idea elexis, i agree, i will try as abstract proposal.

why not having the game options in a tab at all aligned with chat. Faster switching.

Yes, having all in one window is easier to read, just need to make sure that it's not too spammy. We don't want 5 gamesetup chat notifications betweeen 2 lines of chat when the host uses the mousewheel to scroll through all values of the dropdown options (so there would have to be some kind of filter showing only the most recently selected value). Going to upload the gamesetting handling patch in the upcoming days if possible to avoid further merge conflicts and to implement these features with less hardcodings.

This countdown can be useful also if added with a countdown sound.
2 differents sounds:

  • during the countdown
  • and when the game start really.

It can allow players who aren't on the 0 A.D. window to announce that the game will start.

As said players wouldn't win anything but a time delay in the gamesetup, so perhaps close this revision.?
Maybe there could be a time delay when everyone has loaded the game, so the players can countdown on their first command.

I agree, the proclaimed use case is exactly the same use case as that of the ready button and the gamedescription object, the thing with orange text that shows all gamesettings as of rP18692.

In any case, if the process of readying-up involves too many steps, I think the overall better way would be to change the "Game settings have been changed." message to a more descriptive message mentioning exactly what has been changed.

Thats the subject of D1195 and would also be very practical if not necessary for players setting up the game #3806.
