Isn't the fact that they can only train one of the two types a penalty enough?

Isn't the fact that they can only train one of the two types a penalty enough?

No, many civilizations can train only one type of infantry champion.

As I wrote in the summary of D3384:

The Seleucid unlock pikeman vs unlock swordsman technologies are still free. They have to choose one, whereas some other civs can have two or three infantry champions. Besides, the Seleucids have two non-free unlock technologies at the stable.

Unlocking both champion cavalry and chariots already costs 1200 food together and having to choose by excluding one is already a penalty.

I don't know if it seems fair to me, anyway I think time must be incuded, avoiding immediate p3 spam.

Actually I'd prefer a resource cost (e.g. 400 metal) and 0 time over 0 resource cost but with a time.
Besides, the Seleucids currently don't have any civ bonuses, so I don't think they'll suddenly dominate just because of this.
Anyway, if others think it's necessary too, then I won't object.

What if the seleucidas bonus was something related to the champions? We could remove unlock technologies for all champions. In contrast, increase your training time a little, what do you think? Is there anything historical about it?

They already have the “Parade of Daphne” technology, though, reducing champion training time by 20%.

Exactly. with the increase in training time, this technology makes even more sense.

Unlocking both champion cavalry and chariots already costs 1200 food together and having to choose by excluding one is already a penalty.

Persa also has two champion cavalry technologies totaling 1200 food and +300 stone, +200 metal + build time (apadana), to train champion infantry that is limited to just one, so this logic cannot be applied. I'm really scared to leave it at that, spam is really possible and can ruin an entire alpha, like a22.

If the question is between having a cost or not for this tech, I'm fine with anything I guess. I'd also have been fine with keeping training in fortress.

The main question is whether we should add a value to prevent spam from champions.

For me it still doesn't make sense the cost 0 and time 0.
If it has no cost or time then shouldn't this technology exclude seleucides? It seems to me a useless click the most.

@real_tabasco_sauce @chrstgtr any opinion about this? Because only for seleucides is it different? If it stays as it is, then it should go to civ bonus?

I suppose it might make sense to add +20% train time and so the unique upgrade to restores this train time to default. I would be open minded to using a different tradeoff for not needing unlocks if someone else has a better idea.

I'm fine with it as it. I haven't seen a sele champ spam strategy effectively used. It makes sele somewhat unique.

What do you mean a civ bonus?

If you think there needs to be a res or time cost then I'm fine with that too--I honestly had not noticed that this existed before now.
