Summary

This is yet another patch to differentiate athen civilization.

I find it interesting to have at least something special for a unit of each civilization.

The purpose of the patch is to make the Athenian hoplite a fourth level, becoming a champion.

Idea started by @Nescio https://code.wildfiregames.com/D3688

With D3688 it can be a great. The idea is the same, making hoplites more used.

See also D3675, D3688, D3727.

Test Plan

Test with D3688 if is possible get rank 4 with a considerable number of hoplites in real batles.

This would mean that the hoplites can become champions before phase 2 right? What about it being a technology in the Gymnasium?

Thanks for the feedback.
Good point but I don't think it's a problem. To be able to reach rank 4 it would take a big fight, with at least 80 units for each side, it hardly happens before phase two, and if it does, there will still be few who would reach the rank 4, and lose power to collect, and they are probably not enough to cause serious damage to the enemy. The real power comes in late game with D3688.

Maybe increase their <Promotion/RequiredXp>?

Was it? It's not in the linked forum post.

Oh sorry, started by you in https://code.wildfiregames.com/D3688.

Honestly, while Athenian hoplites weren't bad soldiers (probably pretty decent for their time), they didn't fare very well when matched against other Greek hoplites from Thebes or Sparta. I'd rather this "Fourth Rank" idea go to the Roman Swordsman. The fourth rank being either the Extraordinarius, or (much cooler) a new Republican Centurion unit.

In fact, I did not take into account the historical effectiveness of the athenians hoplites, my goal is just that this unit is used more often, giving the game real historical realism for civ.

Yes, it can be used for Romans too.

Centurion is something to implement in my mod. He was a champion who could up rank, it's interesting.

It looks like @wowgetoffyourcellphone made a valid point earlier?
(I would also prefer to have _all_ units be able to promote.)
