Summary

This is an economic bonus for the Kushites. The Kushite Kingdom extended around the Nile River which provided rich soil for agriculture and also a means for irrigation. Cheaper farms allow a smoother transition to food and saves wood early which can be invested into more units/buildings/upgrades. The cheaper corrals means that if a player decides to go for them, they won't be left without a bonus. Similar thing for fishing ships, on island maps farms tend to come up very late so this also helps the early economy on those maps.

Test Plan

Check for errors and whether the cost is actually 50 wood. Agree.

I think the most appropriate is "Fields -50% resource cost".

kushites is currently an economic/defensive civilization, I think this bonus adds to the style of play.

I'm not completely sure about the value, it can give you a big early game advantage.

Yep, will do.

Giving a unique early advantage is the point. You actually piqued my interest about how this compares to the Ptolemie wood saving bonus. Generally you will get to 8 farms, and remain at that count for the rest of a match, at around 80 population, which will save the Kushites 400 wood. The Ptolemies in that time will have saved 440 wood (1 Storehouse + 1 Farmstead + 12 Houses) and will continue saving wood as the game goes on. Additionally, for Kushites the bonus will come into effect later if extra berries/hunt are involved. Makes me feel like this bonus should actually be increased to like 75% or also reduce build time.

I would make the fields free. That by itself wasn’t super OP when ptol had it (it was the free storehouses and farmhouses that were the main eco benefit). Otherwise this is really just a benefit of being able to save a couple hundred wood and being able to build your first farm a couple seconds earlier.

Otherwise, I like the idea.

It wasn't so op because the build time balanced out the zero cost, and yet Ptolemy was the best civilization in the game. Kushites already has a good economic bonus with the pyramids and militarily it is perhaps the most complete civilization. My fear is not to make civilization a new ptolemy of a23.
As I said on the forum, the main source of kushite economy was husbandry, and we don't have any bonus like this, so I would give a bonus to the corrals/animals, or I would increase the hunting power of the kushite horses.

Eh. I still think it just makes you about 5 seconds faster on the first farm and saves just about 400 wood in an entire game if the player properly balanced their eco. Ptol’s free storehouse and farm stand used to provide about that much benefit in the first 10 seconds. I would still go with free farms.

I also would be fine with free corrals, quicker animal training, and/or quicker hunting. The quicker hunting part may get tricky with rushes on big hunt maps, though

Maybe it's something from before my time but in a23 the Ptol farms were completely normal cost. I think you're also underestimating how useful this proposed bonus is in a no extra food start or when you're playing aggressive.

It seems to me that Kushites had both good farming and pastoralism so what about having the bonus affect both farms and corrals?

Ah, you're right. It was free corrals.

I like to include corrals in the bonus, I'm just not sure about the values. The Kushita kingdom was incredibly rich. I don't know if it's possible (@wraitii), but it would be a very interesting bonus if the kushites player starts the game with 25% more resources than other civilizations.
