Currently melee troops inflict more damage when promoting to a higher rank, but ranged troops don't:

However, ranged troops don't get stronger attacks, thus basic inflicts as much damage as elite, while champions tend to have double the damage.advanced and elite each get −10% spread, Currently advanced and elite each get +4 maximumwhich is not very significant:
This patch gives range and −10% spread; the latter is not very significantd troops +20% attack damage, and the former is oddfor consistency, because it means champions have less range than their elite counterpartsbut removes the spread improvement to compensate.
This patch therefore removes the range and spread improvements and gives ranged troops +20% attack damage instead, for consistency.
