Discussed in: https://wildfiregames.com/forum/topic/84525-differentiating-civilizations-sparta/#commentsThis patch seeks to differentiate Sparta from other civilizations. The main objective here is to update and bring a variety of new tactics and ways to play Sparta. We must begin to chart a path to where we wish to lead civilizations.
I tried to create a patch where I could please as many players as possible based on the opinions posted in the topic. I also took care to keep the original idea of sparta, https://0ad.fandom.com/wiki/SpartansHow Sparta should play:
Sparta should be an aggressive civilization with an emphasis on its champions. Unity erased in the current situation, and that together with the agogerelies heavily on its extremely powerful melee infantry, portray the Spartan civilization historically so well.
Changes:
- **Two news civ bonus:**
Two kings: Spartan player can have two simultaneous heroesgaining this advantage is the difference between success and defeat.
Laws of lycurgus: champions half resources costSpartan Cavalry are missing, but cost 2 pop
- **Syssitia is now built in village phase.along with their siege, Limit of 2**
Syssitia new tech: tyrtean paeans: champions move 20% faster
Agoge tech removed
- **Champions can be trained in village phase**but a good player can make use of the mounted skirmisher and trusty ram.
Champions can upgrade to Olympic champions. +20% health and attack.
- **Gerusia back to the game.Spartan naval technologies are pretty standard for a Hellenistic civilization, Built on village phase.though they're no match for the Athenians - if used wisely, Limit of 1**
Three new technologies:they're still pretty decent.
- Krypteia: Champions +20% attack, but citizen infantry skimishers +30% training time. Technology of choice. Historically correct and the penalty also helps balance.
- Apophora: Infantry skirmishers +100% grain gather rate, but -20% attack. Technology of choice. Historically correct and the penalty also helps balance.
- Unlock neodamodes: Unlock the ability to train neodamodes hoplites. Historically correct.
Heros are now trained in gerusia.
- **New unit:**
Neodamodes: Free helots, can only fight, can't gather resources, build and advance rank. Cost 40 food. Trained in cc/barracks.
- **New aura:**
Othismos: Spartiates next to each other +1 armor. Works perfectly with phalanx formation.Spartans have a robust but mostly average economy with good mining technologies and agricultural technologies; The other formations do not affect due to the aura range.
Well i hope you like it.
{F2891463}the economy must be quite capable of sustaining this military power.
The Spartans are clearly an offensive civilization, for them the best defense is a good, brutal offensive campaign or a quick preemptive strike against their opponents. Indeed, as they are unable to build forward walls beyond palisades, it is possibly their only form of defense.
