#1973 / D1718 / rP24963 adds a functionality for resources to gradually recover or disappear.
This patch allows fish and fruit to regenerate their food amounts:
- fruit constantly recovers 1 food per 6 seconds, i.e. 10 food per minute;
- fish recovers 1 food per 2 seconds, i.e. 30 food per minute, but only when not being gathered.
These values are intentionally much lower than the gather rates:
- female workers have a food.fruit gather rate of 1, or 1.5 with technology;
- fishing boats have a food.fish gather of 1.8, or 2.34 with technology.
This means that to be sustainable, workers should pick fruit only one-sixth of the time and fishing boats only a quarter of the time, which is rather inefficient. With normal usage, i.e. one gatherer and a dropsite nearby, resources last somewhat longer (at least 20% for fruit) than they do right now, but will still be exhausted sooner rather than later. With multiple gatherers per resource and a nearby dropsite there will hardly be a difference.
Overall the effect on gameplay will probably be rather minor, if anything. Nevertheless, it's a nice extra and useful to showcase an interesting feature available in 0 A.D.
