Following D3108 / rP24382, sounds are properly attenuated. However, as noted by players on A24, the dropoff is stark and, when zoomed out, can easily result in not hearing things that are happening in the middle of the screen.
I think these settings, which essentially double the range, are much better. In the attached screenshot, I can barely hear the miners in the back (but I can hear them), which feels about where I'd want sound. With the A24 settings, you basically don't hear the woodcutters.
Stuff to consider:
- Sounds that aren't visible aren't played, which should be improved.
- We perhaps should use per-sound settings instead, since the maximum distance at which we want to hear fights might actually differ from the distance at which we want to hear resource gathering.
