1 hack and 50 pierce is a little extreme in my opinion. Also, since elephants are less capable siege engines, rams will need to be better balanced.
Currently rams are invulnerable to arrows, and so fragile to swords that 3 swordsmen can comfortably degarrison and kill a ram. Rams should still obviously be weak to melee attacks, but not that weak.
If you are against a sword civ (cav or infantry) it can be quite prohibitive to destroy buildings with rams especially if they are your only option.
Likewise, if you have very few hack damage units, then 5 rams alone can sometimes do way too much damage.

I did some tests years ago, 40 is the same as 50, it starts to become perceptive below 35.

I would put a pin in this one until we understand the melee changes. Whatever we do should be done in conjunction with the melee changes, which are undergoing pretty big testing in the community mod. We need to make sure that rams don't die too easy or else it will become a turtle fest.

Right, in light of those changes, I'd estimate the values should be something around: 7 hack, 30 pierce armor.
