Summary

This diff adds +1 hack armor and+1 pierce armor to spear cavalry.

The citizen spear cavalry underperforms in many situations. It even struggles against other cavalry, meaning it is to weak. Among options to increase their raw attack, their multiplier or their durability, increasing durability was the most popular option.

Test Plan

wait for jenkins and do some playtesting.

But more importantly, see how cavalry works with acceleration.

mhh I have no strong opinion about this. What is the reason they underperform? the lower attack rate?

Maybe only increase the hack for now and see if that already is enough.

Before talking about underperforming, first we should have an idea what the unit is supposed to do.

I would like if using spear cavalry against other cavalry gave you a noticable advantage, but not a insurmountable advantage.

Currently if you use spear cavalry against other cavalry, then the difference is hardly noticeable IMHO.

So when you have spear cavalry (instead of sword cavalry), you gain a minor advantage against other cavalry and you have against other units only a DPS of 5.6 compared to 8.7 of CS sword cavalry. Furthermore employing sword cavalry in their strong point (against infantry) is often possible. Employing spear cavalry in their strong point (against cavalry) is not always possible.

as I said, I don't feel strongly about it, but wouldn't that rather be an argument to increase the counter to 2 ? (also because that would be a nice round number)

I agree, but I also don't really care. This patch does more to help against inf than it does to help against cav. In other words, it is poorly tailored to the problem that it seeks to address.

I'd much rather have them an increased multiplier against other cavalry. Their supposed role is anti-cavalry so I prefer buffing them towards that rather than making them sword cav 2.0

You'll kill me.... but I'd keep the additional pierce armor (I've always thought cav fall to ranged units too easily), but nix the additional hack armor. Then bump up the attack vs. cav bonus to 2.0 as others suggested.

It seemed there was some agreement on the spear cav buff being: +1 pierce armor, cav counter = 2.0. Apparently there is more time to make balance changes so thoughts on this making it into A26?

Agree on the counter multiplier.

But It seems like there is no agreement on armor. See Vali’s comment, which I largely agree with. If any armor is increased, I think it should be hack because speak cav already beat skins, slings, and archers pretty handily. The same is not true for swords and spears have to directly engage with melee to do dmg

yes this sounds better. I was mostly interested in adding just one of the two armor levels. Sounds good to me!

+1 for the x2 mulitplier

It seems like there is wide agreement in the 2x multiplier and some people want more armor. Maybe the armor issue should be dealt with in another patch.

Can we just revise so it is 2x multiplier for now. If nothing else, this would be an easy, temporary improvement. If there are still issue, we can deal with those later
